Emerging Issues Committee

The Emerging Issues Committee (EIC) is crucial to CRIS’s success. The EIC serves as a scientific steering committee helping to set and prioritize short-term and long-term strategic and scientific objectives related to the safety assessment of ingredients found in foods, cosmetics, food-grade packaging, and household products.

The committee is comprised of experienced scientific leaders from academia, government, non-governmental organizations, and industry.

Appointment and expectations

Academic, government and non-governmental organization partners are appointed to the EIC by the CRIS Internal Advisory Committee (IAC). Industry members of the EIC are elected by CRIS Partners.

All members of the EIC serve on a limited and rotating term basis to ensure

  • no one person or entity has undue influence.
  • continuity.

The EIC meets bimonthly via teleconference to solicit, discuss, and prioritize emerging issues. They also meet face-to-face at least once a year – usually at the CRIS Annual Meeting.

You can learn more about the expectations and bylaws of the EIC by reviewing the Emerging Issues Committee Charter.
